The Down to 10 days campaign exists to secure Australians with disability, faster approval for the housing and supports they need.
It is taking months and sometimes years for NDIS participants to receive approval for housing and supports.
Our goal is for NDIS participants to receive approval for the housing and supports they are entitled to within 10 days.
There are thousands of people with disability currently waiting for NDIS funding for housing and supports…
While they wait, they are stuck living in unsuitable places – hospitals, nursing homes, with ageing parents who are unable to care for them.
Living in a home that doesn’t meet their needs impacts every aspect of people’s lives:
Health & Wellbeing
Social connections
Economic participation
It all goes backwards, for people living in a home that restricts, rather than enables.
… They are waiting months and sometimes years for their applications to be processed…
The wait is not for homes to be built or for boxes to be packed, it is for the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to process their paperwork.
People have submitted all the paperwork and are then left in limbo for weeks, months or years, with no guidance on what they could be eligible for or even when they will hear back from the NDIA.
Just when they need support the most, people with disability are left languishing.
… and they don’t need to be.
For senior Australians who need housing, the Federal Government provides approval to enter aged care within a matter of days.
If we can do it for senior Australians, we can do it for Australians with a disability.
