NATHAN

Hi, my name is Nathan, I’m 30, I have Cerebral Palsy. I am also a volunteer public speaker, I speak on lived experience with a disability.

My wife, Kerryanne and I have been married for 3 years. We have 2 beautiful cats; Chilli and Buddy.

I waited for over 450 days to get SDA into my plan.

While waiting for my SDA, Kerryanne and I lived in a dangerous inaccessible property, which impacted on both of our lives. I couldn’t use the bathroom safely, in the end I only showered twice a week. We couldn’t use much equipment at all, (hoists etc), as the layout of the apartment was just too small.  I spent most of the day in a recliner, bored out of my brain.

It’s important that SDA decisions are made quickly because every day I waited I lost more physically and mentally.

I feel it is my human right to live with my wife and have a functional marriage, a home.

The best part of living in our new SDA home is that it no longer feels like a carer-client relationship anymore.
